Terms and Abbreviations

The following table contains important terms and abbreviations used in this documentation. These terms should be known and understood to fully comprehend all content.

BE

Big-Endian
Specific byte order of a binary integer so that the MSB is first and the LSB is last.

CAN

Controller Area Network
The CAN bus is a serial bus system and belongs to the field buses.

CANopen

CANopen ist ein auf CAN basierendes Kommunikationsprotokoll, welches hauptsächlich in der Automatisierungstechnik und zur Vernetzung innerhalb komplexer Geräte verwendet wird.

DIO

Digital Input/Output In automation, DIO refers to digital inputs and outputs for obtaining and controlling binary signals.

FMEA

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
Process of reviewing components to identify potential failure modes in a system and their causes and effects.

FOC

Fiber-Optic Cable
Cables and lines for the transmission of light consist of optical fibers and are partly assembled with plug connectors.

GUI

Graphical User Interface
Graphical user interface for interacting with a computer application.

HMI

Human Machine Interface
User interface for interacting with electronic systems and all controls relevant for the crane operator.

LCPS

Load Collision Prevention System System for avoiding collisions between the load and possible obstacles in the surrounding area. Cranium also supports soft landing.

LE

Little-Endian
Specific byte order of a binary integer so that the LSB is first and the MSB is last.

LSB

Least Significant Byte
The byte position in a binary number having the least value.

MSB

Most Significant Byte
The byte position in a binary number having the greatest value.

MTBF

Mean Time between Failures
The operating time of a repairable asset or device divided by the number of fault occurrences in that time period.

MTTF

Mean Time to Failures
Average time until a non-repairable technical asset or device goes into (dangerous) fail state.

PLC

Programmable Logic Controller
A device that is used to control or regulate a machine or system and is programmed on a digital basis.

PLd

Performance Level d
EN ISO 13849-1 standard for machine safety.

PoE

Power over Ethernet
A method of supplying power to network-compatible devices via the eight-wire Ethernet cable.

Profinet

Technical industry standard for data communication via Industrial Ethernet.

Profisafe

A standard for safety-rated devices for communication with safety controllers via fieldbus technologies such as Profinet.

RMG/ARMG

(Automated) Rail-Mounted Gantry Rail-mounted stacking cranes are used in a variety of different stacking heights and spans for intermodal handling.

SIL2

Safety Integrity Level 2
IEC 61508/62061 standard for machine safety.

TCP

Transmission Control Protocol
In contrast to UDP, TCP is an IP-based network protocol that establishes a connection between two endpoints of a network connection.

UDP

User Datagram Protocol
UDP is a minimal, connection-less network protocol that belongs to the transport layer of the Internet protocol family. It enables applications to send datagrams in IP-based computer networks.

ZIP

A format for lossless compressed files, which reduces the space required for archiving and acts as a container file.
